Her Stage is an ongoing series that engages with the concept of the body in space is a vessel for memories and unfulfilled dreams. It centres the story of the artist’s grandmother, who, in the 1950s, sacrificed her dream of becoming a traditional folk dancer in Uzbekistan to meet societal expectations, underscoring the tension between personal ambition and the constraints of the patriarchal and socialist structures of that era.

Through digital technologies such as machine learning, AI, and pose tracking, Kadyri intertwines her grandmother’s gestures with traditional Uzbek dance movements, creating a digital choreography that reflects the possibilities and limitations of her grandmother’s life. The work invites viewers to consider the transience of movement, the de/reconstruction of memories, and the profound personal and collective histories of Soviet-era Uzbekistan.
